Assignment 5 Personal Project

I'm excited to get on with this assignment as I have moved into a new dimension using Photoshop.  My personal images are either pictures of Lyme Regis or portraits.  Recently I have been working on my favourite images of Lyme to change them into what is known as either Photo Art or Digital Art.  This is where you use the filter gallery of Photoshop (I'm now using the CS5 version) and introduce blocks of colour instead of the graduated flow to show the sky or areas of land.

My whole personal project will consist of different images of Lyme but not in a familiar way.  I've always wished I could drawn and paint. I know we can all put paint to paper but I would have liked to create something original and recognisable whilst working but it was not to be.  I'm hoping the images that I create in this fashion will be a way to get round my inability to paint directly onto paper.

I look at painted images, both old and contemporary work and wonder what it is that stirs the painter's imagination to create 'that' image, what is inside them that struggles to get out in the format they choose?  And I wish I had it too!

I've started by picking out some of my favourite pictures of Lyme.  As you can imagine, having lived in Lyme now for almost 3 years, I have quite a few depicting the seasons - not just the sunny, summer image that most people take, and there are definitely some that I prefer and which get good comments when I put them on view, so I think I'll start with them.  As part of Part 5 of this module you are asked to create a website of your own work and you can see some of my personal favourites on the Weebly site: http://jenniferhollands.weebly.com

Assignment 4 Real or Fake

http://jenhollandsdppass4reality.blogspot.co.uk/
I've completed this assignment 4 where I had to create a magazine or book cover and use my DPP skills to make an authentic looking cover.  I thoroughly enjoyed this assignment as it tied in many of the skills I have used over the passed 10-15 years.

I created a magazine for teenage models called 'Teen Models' and designed it in a style that I thought would attract the demographic age group it was aimed at.  Here's a copy of the front cover:

I've heard back from my tutor, Norman, that he thinks my work is excellent and he also felt that it would attract my target audience.  Now I can move on to the final assignment 5 to complete this module.

Assignment 3 Favourable Feedback

Well, that was a relief that my tutor liked the majority of the monotone images for assignment 3.  There are a couple of suggestions that I will follow up and you can see what I achieve by clicking on the Assignment 3 tab at the top of this page.

Here's my all-time favourite picture of Lyme Regis:

Assignment 3 Competed and posted

I've managed to complete the exercises and assignment 3 on monotone in the timespan suggested by my tutor.  I felt a great sense of achievement as time passed by so quickly and suddenly, having promised myself that I would put in the hours each week to get it completed, the deadline fast approached.  Still, it's done and gone and I am awaiting feedback. On to assignment 4, reality and intervention.

Well, I've got my mojo back and have completed assignment 2 and had it returned from my tutor with postive comments.  New year, next assignment to complete by March.

Let things slip quite badly

I suddenly realised how long it had been since since I did any real work on this module.  The summer slipped by when I was engaged on local festivals and activities and suddenly 6 months have passed.  It's time now to make a real effort to get back on track and complete this module.

I have completed Part 2 exercises and Assignment 2 and got it away to my tutor and am determined to put time aside each week to complete the rest of the exercises and assignments within a reasonable time frame.  To follow my work click on either the sidebar for exercises or the tabs at the top of this page for each of the assignments.

Whole new module, new tutor, new everything!

April 2011: I've just completed the module 'People & Place' and am moving on to Digital Photographic Practice. I'm really excited about it as am a keen user of Photoshop but want to learn more about using it relating to photography as have only really dabbled before. Wish me luck as I start the last of my Level 1 modules, can't imagine how people work on two modules at once.
